Instagram has officially introduced the new Instants function in Italya method designed to bring digital communication back to a more spontaneous and immediate level. Available from today in both direct messages (DM) either through a separate app on iOSthe function aims to minimize the steps between shooting and sharing, eliminating any form of modification.
How Instants works and what you can do
But what does it consist of? The idea is to capture a moment and send it right awaywithout filters, without editing and without the possibility of drawing on the phone gallery. As mentioned, access takes place via a new icon in the DMs or by opening the dedicated app. Once inside, just one touch is enough to take photos or short videos.
The system is deliberately essential: there are no editing tools, filters cannot be applied and it is not possible to load existing content. The only addition allowed is the textwhile everything else is excluded to maintain maximum authenticity of the content. The function recalls experiences already seen on platforms such as Snapchat or BeRealbut with direct integration into the Instagram ecosystem.
Limited sharing and temporary content
Snapshots can only be sent to selected contacts: mutual followers or people included in the list of Closest friends. The contents are visible only once and remain available for a maximum of 24 hoursafter which they disappear automatically. There is no way to know who viewed the content and no open notifications are sent.
However, users can react with emojilikes or direct messages, keeping the interaction discreet and private. The launch started from Italy and Spainbut Instagram has already announced a global expansion in the coming months. The objective is clear: to push towards more authentic communication, less constructed and closer to the real daily life of users.
Security, limits and personal archive
One of the most relevant aspects concerns privacy: Instants blocks screenshots and screen recordingmaking content truly temporary. However, each user can consult their snapshots inInstants archiveaccessible from the app’s internal camera. From there you can review the contents and, if desired, share them later in the Instagram Storieswhile still maintaining control over your digital production.
