While giants like Apple and Samsung invest billions in the development of cutting -edge smartphones, a seventeen year old from Central China has created an extraordinary company: building a perfectly functioning folding phone alone. Lan Bowenfirst year student at the Yiling High School in Yichang, in the province of Hubei, used one 3D printer, pieces of old family phones and lots of ingenuity to give life to his device. There are several versions of horizontal folding phones and some vertical models that close inwards, but I have not found anyone bending vertically leaving the screen outside.
To build its smartphone, LAN has used one 3D printer purchased last year for 2,000 yuan (about $ 275)with which he made the personalized frame. The internal components come instead from old family phones and parts purchased online. The result is a device with a thickness of 16 mmmore cumbersome than current standards, but still surprising to be a do-it-yourself project.
However, the path was not difficult. One of the main problems was made the touchscreen work when the phone was open.
