20 and 21 March, the golden days of Italian athletics, three unforgettable golds at the Indoor World Championships in Torun

We will not forget 20 and 21 March 2026: three incredible gold medals for Italy at the indoor world championships: gold for Zaynab Dosso in the 60 meters, for example Nadia Battocletti in the 3000 meters and for Andy Diaz in the triple jump. Three fantastic stories with three victories that wrote the history of our athletics.

First gold, which is repeated, Friday 20 March, with Andy Diaz in the triple jump: a Torunin Polandthe blue scored a new triumph at the Indoor World Championships with 17.47 on his first jump, a year after Nanjing.

We are a winning Italy and the blue brings me luck – Diaz rejoices – the second gold is better than the first, it wasn’t easy to confirm the title but I did it. A couple of weeks ago my coach and I were thinking about not coming here and going straight to the outdoor season

March 21: Zaynab Dosso 60 meters and Nadia Battocletti 3000 meters gold

And yesterday, March 21st, it was the women who gave us another day of emotions, with a thrilling encore never seen in the history of Italian athletics, with two gold medals that truly wrote the history of this sport in our country.

It is Nadia Battocletti who sings the national anthem first: our middle distance runner, already winner of multiple medals, will now also take on the 3000 meters at the indoor world championships in Torun. The Italian champion is therefore now also world champion, with 8:57.64.

It was a crazy race, I think I ran out of tears of joy – comments Battocletti – Here we had to dance in the chaos, I repeated it to myself in the most critical moments, and I succeeded. For me it’s a dream, not because I don’t believe in myself but in this race I struggled, the approach path wasn’t easy. Finding myself doing a race like this, a finish like this after a completely uphill last month for me, is something very important.

Immediately afterwards comes the incredible success of Zaynab Dosso who dominates the 60 meters final in 7.00, thus becoming the first Italian to win a world gold in the sprint. Among other things, it is the third consecutive edition to see her on the podium: from the bronze in 2024, through the silver in 2025, today she climbs to the top step.

This year I made a further leap on a mental level – comments the athlete – and here I knew I was ready for this stage. After bronze and silver, it was my time. I knew how to wait, there is nothing casual, I tell everyone that you can think big but without deluding yourself that things will arrive immediately. The dedication is for myself and for my coach Giorgio Frinolli who led me not to be afraid of my opponents, he told me ‘go and enjoy it’ and so I did

In two days, our country has already broken the record for medals in this competition, which had never seen more than two gold ones. And the indoor world championships have just begun, go blues and go blues!
