4 tons of illegal barrels seized in Rome: the truth that no one tells you about those ‘cheap’ firecrackers”

The massive seizure of over 4 tons of illegal fireworks by the Rome Financial Police is a clear signal: illegal fireworks represent a real threat to the safety of all of us.

A criminal trade that puts human lives at risk

Eight people were reported for clandestine possession and illegal sale of explosive material. This is not a simple bureaucratic irregularity: we are talking about potentially lethal explosive artefacts, kept in precarious conditions, often in private homes or warehouses located in densely populated areas.

The images are eloquent: 2 tons of explosives piled up without authorisations, 82,000 pyrotechnic articles stored near flammable substances and without fire-fighting systems, a woman making home deliveries as if it were pizza. All this in defiance of the most basic safety standards.

Why NOT buy illegal barrels

  1. They are dangerous by definition: illegal fireworks do not meet any safety standards. They can explode unpredictably, causing very serious burns, mutilation and death.
  2. They put entire communities at risk: as highlighted by the GdF, the precarious storage methods in inhabited areas could have led to “serious risks to public safety in the event of an accidental explosion”. An explosion in an illegal warehouse can involve buildings and innocent people.
  3. They fuel crime: buying illegal barrels means financing criminal organizations that have no scruples about the safety of their “customers”.
  4. There is a risk of criminal consequences: anyone who holds or uses illegal pyrotechnic material can be reported to the judicial authorities for serious crimes.

The smart alternative: little stars and silent fires

If we really want to celebrate with a touch of light, stars and silent fireworks are the only responsible choice. These products, if purchased from authorized retailers with the CE mark, offer the same scenographic effect without the dangers of traditional barrels.

The advantages are obvious:

The appeal for a safe New Year’s Eve

This year, let’s celebrate the arrival of 2026 responsibly. If we really want fireworks, let’s buy them only from authorized retailers, check the presence of the CE mark and focus on little stars, luminous fountains and silent fires.

No bang is worth a human life. No party is worth the risk of mutilation, tragedy or the terror of our four-legged friends.

The Financial Police will continue checks throughout the holiday period. We collaborate by reporting suspicious sales and categorically refusing to purchase illegal pyrotechnics.

The real party is the one where everyone can feel safe: people and animals.
