Arezzo, Grosseto, Prato, Pistoia, Florence, Siena, Massa Carrara, Livorno. That of the PFAS is not a question (atavistic) only of Veneto.
To report the serious situation in Tuscany is a group of associations and committees of Tuscany coordinated by the Zero Pfas Toscana network, which have decided to have a series of analyzes, at their own expense, by an accredited laboratory also used by Greenpeace in its latest analyzes conducted in Tuscany. Analysis that have highlighted the widespread presence of these toxic and persistent substances, raising concerns for public health.
The network now requests a change of concrete pace by the Region and the competent authorities, taking an example from the measures already adopted in Veneto and Piedmont.
Pfas in Tuscany: civil society does not stay to watch
The results leave no room for doubt: although the sample is not representative on a statistical scale, the picture that emerges is far from reassuring. In almost all samples collected – 47 points throughout the region, with 58 different analyzed pfas molecules – the presence of these compounds, known for their ability to accumulate in the human body and cause serious damage to health, including endocrine alterations, problems for the immune system, increased risk of cancers, infertility and development disorders.
We wrote to the mayors and proposed motions to the Tuscan municipal councils to ask for concrete studies and actions. We know that our data is not enough for an exhaustive picture, but we believe that this initiative serves to shake consciences and to solicit those in duty, declare the promoters.
The data collected will be shared with the “Zero Pfas Italia” network “, which combines the experiences of other Italian regions, including Veneto, already hard affected by this contamination and today considered an example of institutional reaction.
What the data say
Citizens have championship: potable waters, generic surface water, mining area, purifiers, water at sea, well, industrial area that show different symbols on the map.
The withdrawal points in the region are 47, and the molecules of PFAS analyzed are 58. Most of the analyzes only concerns the PFAS, in others 23 heavy metals are also added and some are limited to the latter.

Other champions, taken near industrial plants, purifiers, mining and landfills, show an almost widespread diffusion of the PFAS, sometimes accompanied by heavy metals. Even a bottle of Tuscan mineral water has revealed traces of PFAS, confirming that the problem does not even spare the products marketed with pride of purity.

The Zero Pfas Toscana network asks the Region:
And above all, it claims courageous political choices, such as those already adopted by Veneto and Piedmont, where – thanks to the pressure of citizens – more restrictive rules have been imposed and in -depth studies have started.
The presence of the PFAS in Tuscany is a concrete reality, not a hypothesis to be verified. The analyzes promoted by the bottom show that pollution is widespread and potentially dangerous. Regional institutions must come out of immobility and face the problem with the seriousness it deserves. Because people’s health cannot wait and cannot be sacrificed on the altar of indifference.
