A new heat wave of African matrix is about to affect Italy, reporting typical values of the central months of the summer. The anticyclonic promontory is going up towards the Mediterranean, pushing hot air that makes temperatures rise in an abnormal way for the season. In many areas of the center and south, 33-35 ° C will be touched, while in the north the weather will remain stable with peaceful skies and only some cloudy disorder of passage. This almost summer climate phase represents a real summer tail, with sunny days and mostly clear skies. A situation that will make lovers of the heat happy, but that forces the use of jackets and sweaters again.
Temperatures above the seasonal average
The maximum temperatures will be maintained in the second part of the week between 27 and 33 degrees, with peaks up to 34-35 ° C especially in the southern regions such as Puglia, Campania and Sicily. These are values well above the average of September, with conditions comparable to those of July.
However, unlike the classic summer heat waves, the nights will remain fresher: the minimums will not go up too much, making the night climate more bearable. Experts underline that it is a temporary but significant phenomenon, fueled by the contrast between subtropical hot air masses and the first freshest currents from the Atlantic.
A weekend of sun before change
Until Sunday 21 September the weather will remain stable and sunny, with ideal conditions for those who love to take advantage of the outdoor days. In the north a few more clouds may appear, especially on the alpine areas, but without significant phenomena. On the rest of the peninsula, the sun will be the protagonist, accompanied by high temperatures that will make these days more similar to August than in September.
Risk of equinox storm
According to weather updates, however, this scenario will last long: a gradual drop has been expected since the beginning of next week. Between 22 and 23 September, coinciding with the arrival of astronomical autumn, the probability will increase that the so -called equinox storm will occur.
It is a typical event of the period, caused by the clash between the still present hot air and the cold air masses arriving from the North Atlantic. The result could be a widespread bad weather phase, with intense rains and a sharp lowering of temperatures on most of Italy.
