The general transport strike starts on 27 and 28 November: timetables at risk and slots guaranteed

Today and tomorrow, 27 and 28 November 2025, the Italian transport system will be affected by a large general strike, with significant repercussions especially on the railway sector. The agitation was proclaimed by the unions USB, Cub, Sgb and Cobas and will involve numerous categories of public and private work.

The strike was based on the request to invest more resources in healthcare, schools and the public sector, to increase wages and reduce precarious employment. The protest is also against the new budget law and to demonstrate solidarity with the Palestinian people, as stated in a statement released by the Basic Trade Union Union (USB). For those who need to travel by train, it is essential to check the availability of your connections in advance, as not all services will be guaranteed.

Stop times and companies involved

The strike will begin at 9pm on Thursday 27 November and end at 9pm on Friday 28 November 2025. Trenitalia, Trenitalia Tper, Trenord and Italo workers will be involved, with possible cancellations or changes to both long-distance and regional services. Railway companies remind that trains already running at the start of the strike will only be able to complete their journey if they are scheduled to arrive within an hour of the start of the abstention.

Guaranteed trains and protected bands

As regards high speed and medium/long distance, Trenitalia has published the list of guaranteed trains on its portal, while Italo has made available a file with the trains insured in each case. All other links may be subject to change based on actual staff compliance.

For regional trains, the usual weekday guarantee slots will be active, in which circulation will be ensured: 6:00–9:00 and 18:00–21:00. Each company invites you to check the active services on the respective pages dedicated to guaranteed trains.

Ticket refund and trip rescheduling

Passengers who decide to abandon their trip due to the strike will be able to request a ticket refund. For Intercity and Frecce services the request must be submitted by the train’s departure time, while for regional services the procedure must be carried out by midnight of the previous day. It is also possible to reschedule the trip to the first available solution, under equivalent transport conditions and based on seat availability.

Effects in other transport sectors

The general strike will also involve local public transport, highway staff, the airline sector and other essential sectors. In many cities, reduced journeys or cancellations are expected during Friday 28 November, according to the specific methods of local companies. In the aviation sector, the protection periods 7:00–10:00 and 18:00–21:00 will remain active, during which flights must be carried out regularly.
