Who gets the thirteenth grade and when does it arrive in 2025
The additional monthly payment for December represents a fundamental item in the pockets of workers and pensioners. In 2025 it will follow the usual rules, with different dates depending on the category. Pensioners will be the first: they will receive their thirteenth salary together with their December pension, therefore from the 1st of the month. Public employees will have it on December 15th, in conjunction with their salary, while in the private sector the payment window will approximately fluctuate between December 15th and 24th, based on the provisions of the collective agreement and company procedures.
Who is it for?
The thirteenth salary is due by law to employees with subordinate contracts and pensioners. It is also recognized to those who receive welfare checks that provide for it. Self-employed workers, VAT holders without a pay slip, occasional workers, interns and trainees are excluded. The right derives from national legislation and collective bargaining, and cannot be denied if provided for by the contract.
How the amount is calculated
The amount does not correspond exactly to the monthly net salary. You take your gross pay, divide it by twelve and then multiply it by the actual months worked or spent retired during the year. The sum is subject to taxation and contributions, so it will be lower than the normal monthly payment received. Holidays, sickness, leave and paid days are included in the count, while unjustified absences are not considered.
Part-time, recent hires and mid-year retirements
Those who have worked all year will receive the full amount, equivalent to an additional gross monthly salary. Those who started or ended their employment relationship or pension during 2025 will receive a share proportionate to the useful months. In the case of part-time contracts, the calculation is made also considering the weekly working time.
Public sector and school
For public employees, including teachers and ATA staff, the date is set for December 15th. Anyone with an annual or fixed-term contract until 30 June or 31 August will receive the additional monthly payment on the same day. The case of short-term or temporary substitutes is different: for them the thirteenth salary is paid monthly, in proportion to the days of service.
When the payslip will be visible
Pensioners will be able to view the amount as early as the end of November on the INPS portal. Public employees will find it on NoiPA in the last days of November. For private workers, the payslip consultation will take place in mid-December, with timing varying from sector to sector.
Payment and credit: pay attention to banks
The payment date does not always coincide with the credit date. If the scheduled day falls on a weekend or holiday, the amount may arrive in your account on the first working day. This applies to both pensions and salaries.
Thirteenth bonus
Also for 2025 the bonus could be foreseen for specific income brackets. It will be necessary to check the requirements and application methods as soon as the updated indications are published.
