In 2026, Easter falls on Sunday 5 April and Easter Monday (Easter Monday) on 6 April. This is a defined “average” Easter, as it falls between 3 and 13 April. An Easter would be considered “low” if it fell between March 22 and April 2, or “high” if it occurred between April 14 and 25.
When the Easter holidays begin
The Easter school holidays begin before the holiday: in most Italian regions, schools will be closed from 2 to 7 April 2026, for a total of six consecutive days.
This break period represents a time for students to recharge their batteries before the final term of the school year, while many families will take advantage of the opportunity for short trips or cultural activities.
Regional calendar of Easter holidays
Closing dates vary slightly between regions, based on their respective school calendars:
From 2 to 7 April (6 days): Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Lombardy, Marche, Molise, Piedmont, Province of Bolzano, Puglia, Sardinia, Sicily, Tuscany, Umbria, Valle d’Aosta, Veneto
From 2 to 6 April (5 days): Liguria
From 2 to 8 April (7 days): Trentino
Note: individual educational institutions can independently provide for additional closing days in compliance with the expected annual number of hours.
