Thirty-five thousand shopsthere are many brands – tobacconists, bars, newsstands, bookshops – that from March 10th accept cash payment for orders placed on Amazon.it. A number which, in the capillary geography of Italian local trade, is more or less equivalent to saying close to home.
The expansion of the service “Pay in Cash“was announced directly by Amazon Italy and represents an important expansion compared to the pre-existing network. The declared objective is reach that segment of consumers whoby choice or necessity, prefers not to use credit cards and digital payment toolsa share that is anything but residual in the Italian market.
How it works
The procedure is entirely managed online until the last step. When checking out on Amazon.it, select “Pay in Cash” as the payment method; the site indicates the nearest authorized point of sale. Once the order is completed, a barcode with a unique code will arrive via e-mail to be presented within 72 hours to the chosen affiliated store. The point of sale issues a paper receipt, Amazon sends the confirmation and begins preparation for shipping.
For delivery, the customer can choose between home delivery, an Amazon Locker – the self-service lockers scattered throughout Italy – or an Amazon Counter, the collection points assisted by staff in participating stores.
There is one detail to keep in mind for those who need to return an item, namely that the refund will not be paid in cashbut in the form of an Amazon.it gift voucher.
The choice of those who do not use cards
These are the words of Giorgio BusnelliCountry Manager of Amazon Italy:
At Amazon, we’re constantly working to make shopping accessible to everyone, regardless of their payment preferences. We believe that giving customers the freedom to choose how to pay is essential to ensuring that anyone can purchase the wide selection of products available on Amazon.it, benefiting from fast deliveries and the convenience of our service. With the expansion of the network, we are bringing the Pay in Cash service within reach of millions of Italians – just a few steps from home – in a total network of over 35,000 points of sale.
The service joins the other payment methods already available on Amazon.it: credit, debit and prepaid cards, direct debit from the current account, installment payments, gift vouchers and BANCOMAT Pay®. The full rollout for all users is expected in the coming weeks.
