At Lidl in Milan you fill up for free while you shop without even registering

In the lexicon of motors, fullness recalls a quick, almost automatic gesture. In the world of electric the picture changes shape, it becomes more concrete, more technical, more linked to the real times of the city. In Milan, in fact, free Lidl charging really exists and the chain presents it as a service intended for customers of equipped sales points, with AC stations of up to 22 kW, active in the time slot indicated by the company and accessible through a simple mechanism, without apps and without registrations. The network, according to the official Lidl Italia page, now has 300 charging stations distributed in participating stores.

How Lidl charging stations work in Milan

The most interesting part, here, lies precisely in the distance between slogan and reality. The “free tank” formula works well in a title, while the substance talks about a short recharge, useful when shopping, designed to add autonomy and reduce the costs of using the electric or plug-in hybrid car. Activation occurs by connecting the vehicle to the column and following the instructions on the display. Lidl clearly explains that the procedure starts without an app, without a loyalty card and without registration.

This difference matters, because in half an hour the result changes a lot from one car to another. The on-board charger, battery level, charging curve and even temperature have an impact. For this reason, the most honest definition remains only one: free energy for a short stop, within a commercial service that accompanies the shopping time and transforms it into useful minutes for recovering kilometres.

Parking times, duration and rules

On a practical level, Lidl Italia indicates a very precise window: the service is available from Monday to Sunday, from 8am to 9pm. The declared power is up to 22 kW in alternating current and each session has a maximum duration of 30 minutes. Upon expiry, charging stops automatically and the stall must be cleared. The rule on spaces is equally clear: the pitches are reserved for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles actually charging.

The other side of the service concerns the management of unexpected events. Lidl specifies that technical assistance is not guaranteed in real time and invites users to check the status of the charging station before use, to report any anomalies to store staff and to contact customer support in case of problems, including difficulty in unhooking the cable. It is a less seductive detail than “free”, yet it is what makes the picture more true, more useful and above all more correct.

Where they are located

The key word here always remains the same: adherents. The service concerns Lidl supermarkets which show the charging station among the active services in the point of sale profile. The company’s official store search serves precisely this purpose, i.e. to check the address, opening hours and equipment before leaving. In the official Milan cards, among others, there are points of sale such as Viale Ergisto Bezzi 69, Piazza Pietro Frattini 4, Via Ornato 148, Via delle Forze Armate 314, Viale Monza 244 and Via Adriano 22, all marked with the presence of the column.

And it is precisely here that the piece stands up on its own, without forcing. In Milan, free energy while you go shopping exists, it’s just that it needs to be told for what it is: a real, useful, limited and very simple to use service, far from the fantasy of total refueling and very close to the urban routine of those who enter the supermarket, take the trolley and in the meantime leave the car connected. The advantage lies there, in the tight time of a commission and in a free stall at the right time. The rest is decided by the column display.
