At dawn, when the first morning lights caressed the historic center of Molveno, the residents woke up to an unexpected wonder. From the mastery of the Vicenza sculptor Marco Martalar was born Il Bacio, an imposing creation that portrays two human profiles caught in the moment of reunion. The ideal panoramic point to admire the work is located on the terrace in the city center.
Positioned at the beginning of the village overlooking the lake and the Brenta Dolomites, the installation transforms environmental wounds into a poetic gesture. The structure was born from the recovery of fragments and abandoned branches swept away by the fury of the Vaia storm and then returned by the lake waters. Where nature has suffered destruction, matter takes shape again in a universal dialogue dedicated to artistic transformation and affection.
The secret blitz led by mayor Lorenzo Donini
The positioning of the sculpture was a real blitz organized in the utmost secrecy to surprise residents and visitors. The preparation took place a short distance away on a transportable platform, remaining protected until the decisive moment. Mayor Lorenzo Donini revealed the details of the operation:
The work was positioned on Monday morning at 6am. Built nearby on a transportable platform, it was kept hidden and shrouded in mystery until the first light of dawn. A truck transported and positioned the work at the beginning of the historic centre, a symbolic place of our country and strategic for the wonderful view of the lake which forms the backdrop to the two faces. A surprise for everyone, but especially for lovers who on the night of San Lorenzo were able to raise their heads upwards in search of the stars hidden among the branches of this romantic figure.
The artist’s words and the poetics of wood
For the Vicenza master it is a return to Molveno, after the creation of the imposing bear located in the Pradel area, near the La Montanara Refuge. This new work enriches a vast open-air museum which includes iconic sculptures such as the Dragon of Lavarone, the Winged Lion of the Seven Municipalities, the Deer on Fertazza, the Haflinger of Strembo, the Radicosaur, the She-Wolf of Lagorai, the Eagle of Marcesina, the Griffon and the Guàna. Author Marco Martalar explained the meaning of his creation:
From the abandoned branches, marked by wind, water and time, two presences emerge looking for each other. The matter, apparently fragile and dispersed, gathers in human forms and finds a common destiny in the most ancient and universal moment: the meeting.
A message of rebirth that surpasses time
The wood destined to rot on the ground thus finds an opportunity for eternity, transforming the signs of the elements into expressive details. The artist also explored the emotional vision of the installation:
The Kiss is the story of a closeness that overcomes distance, of two souls who recognize each other even before touching. Wood, guarding the wounds and memory of nature, becomes a gesture, a look, an emotion. Each fragment contributes to creating a greater harmony, where what was separate becomes unity again.
The work intends to celebrate rebirth through a profound feeling:
The work celebrates the silent force of love, capable of transforming matter into poetry and time into eternity. In that suspended moment, everything is silent: only the universal language of affection remains, which unites living beings as invisible roots unite the trees of the forest. Every kiss is a bridge between two solitudes, a place where the heart recognizes its home.
