The Pyramid of Cestius, a jewel of Rome with over 2000 years of history, will be open to visitors again: after 3 years of work with PNRR funds, the work will be available to the public, even with some free admissions, from 4 September to 31 October. Let’s not miss these opportunities!
As the Special Superintendency of Romethe pyramid was built in 330 days (between 18 and 12 BC) according to precise testamentary provisions, and is the only funerary monument inspired by the Egyptian fashion, which spread to Rome after the battle of Actium in 31 BC, to have survived to the present day.
The works made it possible to secure the access staircase, reorganize the garden through a reconnaissance of existing plant species and monitoring their status, create a renewed lighting system and structure educational and welcome panels aimed at improving accessibility.
The new artistic lighting reveals the architectural strength of the Pyramid of Cestius and the elegance of the frescoes of the funerary chamber, through a measured intervention that respects the historical identity of the monument – comments the Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli – The PNRR – Caput Mundi allows for the combination of protection, accessibility and quality of use, returning to Rome one of its most recognizable monuments in a renewed guise
