Everything is ready for the longest pizzoccherata in Italy in Bormio: the most awaited food and wine festival in Valtellina is back

A 800 meter long snake of wood and enthusiasm is preparing to cross the beating heart of the Valtellina area. On Sunday 6 September 2026, the historic center of Bormio will become the open-air theater of the longest pizzoccherata in Italy, one of the most anticipated gastronomic events of the summer season.

The festive route will unfold its lines starting from Piazzetta San Vitale, covering the entire famous Via Roma and then culminating in the evocative setting of Piazza del Kuerc. Waiting for over 2,000 diners there will be tables set by volunteers, ready to create an extraordinary atmosphere of conviviality, music and folk dances to celebrate local recipes.

The program of the day and the Bajona ritual

The event will officially kick off at 12:00, with table service set for 12:30. The opening of the banquet will feature local appetizers: diners will be able to taste salamet and slinzega from the County, accompanied by the renowned farmers’ cheeses. The tasting will be enriched by the wine selection curated by the Consortium for the Protection of Valtellina Wines and by Acqua Fonte Levissima.

The key moment will start at 1pm when, as tradition dictates, the tolling of the historic Bajona di Bormio will give the signal to the chefs to serve the steaming pizzoccheri hand-prepared by local restaurateurs at the same time on all parts of the table. Finally, the buckwheat cake and the typical Valtellina apples will crown the lunch.

How to book your table: gluten-free variants also available

Coupons to participate in the banquet must be reserved online at this link by choosing your seat on the interactive map made available on the official website of the event. During the purchase phase it is possible to indicate specific dietary needs to be served gluten-free or butter and cheese-free variations of pizzoccheri. The organization reminds you that tickets are non-refundable and recommends that people with motor disabilities in wheelchairs contact the Bormio Infopoint before purchasing to arrange accessible seats.

For safety and space reasons, the presence of pets is not permitted. In case of adverse weather conditions, the event will take place regularly indoors by moving the tables inside the Pentagon in Bormio and in participating venues, with official communication by 10:00 am on Saturday 5 September 2026.
