Food recall, Ortonatura withdraws Zuppa Toscana: inside there is minestrone with celery not declared on the label

On the label it says Tuscan soup, but inside the tub there is minestrone. Ortonatura, an agricultural consortium company based in Settala, in the province of Milan, has started the precautionary recall of its Zuppa Toscana 500 g. The exchange would be a minor detail if the minestrone didn’t contain celery, an allergen that appears nowhere on the package. The recall sign is dated October 7, 2026.

The recalled product

The product is sold under the name Zuppa Toscana 500 g, under the Ortonatura SACA rl brand, which is also the manufacturer. It is packaged in the Cascina Gaita snc factory, in Settala (MI).

The recall concerns batch 0510, with an expiry date between 5 and 11 October. Then there is a detail that betrays the error inherent in the weight declared for the sales unit, which is 600 grams and not 500, because it is that of the minestrone that ended up in the wrong package.

Because he was recalled

As mentioned at the beginning, there is talk of an oversight in the packaging phase. Some packs of Minestrone 600 g were closed with the Zuppa Toscana label. Thus the celery, present in the minestrone, disappeared from the list of ingredients. It is one of the allergens that European regulation 1169/2011 obliges to highlight on the label, precisely to prevent those who are allergic to it from eating it without knowing it.

What to do in case of purchase

Ortonatura asks people who are allergic and/or intolerant to celery not to consume the product. The sign does not give any information on returns. Usually, those who have a package of the recalled lot at home can take it back to the point of sale, although it is best to check this directly with the store.
