Resisting in a plank position for a few minutes already represents a maximum challenge for anyone who frequents a gym, but for sixty-one-year-old Donna Jean Wilde time seems to pass at a completely different speed. During the inaugural ceremony of the Huntsman World Senior Games, hosted in the Burns Arena of Utah Tech University, the Canadian athlete pushed his physical and mental endurance beyond all known limits, establishing a new and astonishing plank world record with 5 consecutive hours of holding it still. The feat accomplished only eclipses the record that the same champion had achieved exactly two years earlier, when on March 21, 2024 she stopped at 4 hours, 30 minutes and 11 seconds in the Alberta high school where she had worked as a teacher and vice-principal.

The new goal takes on even more extraordinary contours if we consider the age of the protagonist, capable of beating a record set when she was 58 and surpassing her historic compatriot Dana Glowacka. To officially validate the resistance test, the iron discipline of the board requires that the forearms and toes remain continuously glued to the floor, keeping the body perfectly aligned and the abdominal and lumbar muscles perpetually contracted for over 300 minutes of uninterrupted effort.

From a broken wrist to world records: the extraordinary story of the record-breaking grandmother
Behind a performance that leaves sports medicine experts amazed there is not the path of a professional athlete who grew up in elite competitive circuits, but a story of extraordinary personal resilience. Mother of 5 children and grandmother of 12 grandchildren, Donna Jean Wilde discovered the plank discipline almost by chance after breaking her wrist, an injury that prevented her from running or lifting weights but which allowed her to rely on her forearms to train.
From that moment the progression was unstoppable, transforming a rehabilitation exercise into a real life mission that led her to collect other memorable titles, such as the record for the highest number of push-ups performed by a woman in one hour, completing 1,575 of them in 60 minutes. The Canadian champion thus demonstrates that determination has no age limit, now leaving open the curiosity as to what the next frontier she will decide to cross will be.
