Shock in football, Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel dies at just 30 years old: fatal clash with the opposing goalkeeper

The world of football is in shock: Jesús de Miguel Alameda, Tenerife striker, has died at just 30 years old. The footballer ended up in intensive care, with a critical neurological condition, following the foul suffered by the Andorra goalkeeper in a match in the Spanish second division. De Miguel went into cardiac arrest after being overwhelmed by the exit of the opposing Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono, who was then sent off, who hit him violently in the chest.

The attacker remained motionless on the ground for minutes that seemed interminable, in front of the other anguished players who requested the intervention of medical personnel. De Miguel was then transported to the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital, but the situation rapidly worsened neurologically. And this morning, unfortunately, the young striker passed away.

There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can ease this enormous feeling of sadness. – writes the Tenerife club in a note released on social channels – We are next to his devastated family, next to his loved ones, next to all the fans who cry today over this cruel epilogue. The family of Jesús de Miguel thanks for every single demonstration of support received and, equally, asks, from the bottom of their hearts, for the utmost respect for their privacy in these terrible moments.

A message of condolence also arrived from Futbol Club Andorra, which wrote:

“Heartbroken and devastated, we want to send our deepest condolences to Jesús de Miguel’s family, all his teammates, friends and CD Tenerife. May he rest in peace.”
