A new maxi breeding with more than 270 thousand hens in Arborio? No, thank you: the warning of associations starts

We can no longer. Despite years of battles, investigations, scientific studies and increasingly stronger appeals on civil society, there are still those who think that opening new intensive farms is acceptable. This time it’s up to Arborio, in the province of Vercelli, where a 274 thousand ovary hens is under construction. Animalist and anti -specific associations, however, are not there and have decided to intervene with a formal warning to stop the work.

In recent days, Lav, Animal Equality, Lndc-Animal Protection, the network of free animals sanctuaries, together with various activists and activists, have signed an act of warning addressed not only to the Bruzzese company, owner of the project, but also to the Piedmont Region, province of Vercelli and the Municipality of Arborio. A gesture necessary to stop a bureaucratic machine that – once again – has ignored the real environmental, health and social dangers linked to a work of similar impact.

In the document, drawn up by the Dini and Saltalamacchia law firm, the total absence of transparency is denounced: no public initiative, no article in local newspapers, no information spread in a widespread way. Everything has remained confined to the cold meanders of the institutional sites. As if it were normal to approve such an invasive project without involving citizens and towns that will have to live with us every day.

The associations have declared that:

The procedures did not take into account the real environmental and public health dangers and the population did not actually feel informed of the project, as they are unaware of everything until the beginning of the works.

The mobilization against this project began on May 23 and never stopped. In recent months, manifestations, signatures and petitions have been held. The Citizen Rice Committee (independent network solidarity and opposition) gave voice to the population, collecting many signatures and adhesions. And the online petition, to date, has exceeded 55 thousand signatures.

Support grows and the protest continues

It is not only activists who rebel. The protest obtained the support of transverse political forces: Eleonora Evi (Pd) presented two parliamentary questions; Regional questions came from Verdi and Left and from the 5 Star Movement.

ISDE – Association of Medici for the Environment and the local group of Greenpeace have also expressed their clear opposition because this project is not simply an unhappy choice but it is a real danger, a threat to collective health, the well -being of animals and the quality of life of an entire territory.

They remember the associations that Arborio’s maxi breeding is nothing more than the symbol of an obsolete and cruel production model, based on the imprisonment of hundreds of thousands of animals in narrow spaces and environmental devastation. It is a system that continues to be promoted despite the climate change and the growing demand for ethical and sustainable alternatives.

The associations promise battle:

The oppressions, human and animals, have common roots that generate alliances capable of creating solid foundations for a future in which the life of each individual is free.

The struggle therefore does not stop: information events, legal actions and mobilization from below will continue until this project is definitively deleted. Because another maxi breeding cannot and must not see the light.
