A stone’s throw from Rome, the UFO-shaped house is for sale

About 36 kilometers from Rome, in the heart of the Lazio countryside, there is a house that has been making people roll their eyes for decades – in the literal sense. The structure in Gallicano nel Lazio, built between the 1960s and 1970s in marine wood, has the unmistakable shape of a flying saucer: circular body slightly raised from the ground, side fins for ventilation and an upper ring with large windows which, seen from above, accentuate the resemblance to a spaceship. Inside, a red sunburst ceiling, oval windows and futuristic furnishings complete the atmosphere.

It was built by Franco Attanasio, a carpenter passionate about science fiction, who created it as a home for his family. After his wife’s death he abandoned the project, and since then the structure has remained in a state of increasing decay, becoming a cult destination for the curious, urbex enthusiasts and tourists of the unusual.

The return to the real estate market

Now the property is back on the market, with the announcement reporting the figure of 135 thousand euros for the entire property, which includes the UFO structure of approximately 400 square meters with 2,200 square meters of perimeter land, plus an adjacent apartment of 70 square meters. The price is negotiable. The announcement specifies that the main body – classified as commercial premises C/1 – is currently uninhabitable and requires complete renovation. The adjacent apartment is encumbered by a rental contract.

Anyone wishing to purchase it could transform it into a private residence, event location, photographic set and thematic accommodation facility. The notoriety of the property – with an already consolidated online community – guarantees immediate visibility for any relaunch project.
