After the Olympic feat, Federica Brignone ends the season early: “my body is taking its toll on me”

The news comes as a sudden stop after a perfect descent: Federica Brignone ends her season early. The Italian champion, fresh from a gold double at the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, has decided to stop and give up the last stages of the World Cup. No Val di Fassa, no Åre, no finals in Norway. The “Tiger” surrendered not to his opponents, but to his own body. And she did it with clarity, choosing the most difficult but necessary path for an athlete.

The weight of one year over the limit

Explaining her painful but inevitable decision, Federica stated:

I think I’ve asked a lot of my body over these months. I tried to continue the season, but now my body is taking its toll on me.

Words that tell of a silent attrition, matured after months spent chasing a gigantic goal. It all started on April 3, 2025, with a serious injury that could have compromised the home Games. From there, a race against time transformed into an authentic record recovery.

From the very day I got injured I dedicated myself to the goal of participating in the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympics, achieving the double result of carrying the tricolor flag and getting on the podium. I actually made it on two occasions, also climbing to the top step of the podium.

Two golds, in Super-G and Giant, which have engraved his name in the history of Italian skiing. But every medal has a price and now the bill has arrived.

A break so as not to compromise the future

The key word is pause. Not retreat, not goodbye. A strategic choice to protect the future and complete a rehabilitation compressed by the calendars and Olympic ambitions.

I’m taking advantage of the season now coming to an end to give myself a break and then continue the rehabilitation as best I can, which has been logically forced over the course of all this time to arrive at the miracle that we were able to accomplish.

Without its leader, the Italian team is preparing for the events in Trentino. On the track there will be, among others, Sofia Goggia and Elena Curtoni, called to collect the emotional legacy of an extraordinary season.

For Brignone, however, the priority now is to get back to breathing, heal fully and choose the right moment to start again if his body will allow it.
