Tom Holland has embarked on a journey of sobriety after realizing he was drinking too much and has now launched his own line of non-alcoholic beers, Bero
Tom Hollandknown for his role as Spider-Man, has decided to enter the industry of non-alcoholic drinks launching a new line of beers call Bero. The project was born from his personal experience with Dry Januaryan initiative by Alcohol Change UK which encourages people to abstain from alcohol for a month.
In 2022, Holland participated in Dry January and he realized the effect alcohol had had on himleading him to extend the challenge well beyond January. Holland revealed in an interview:
I drank too much. I was the kind of person who .
After completing the first month, Holland decided to continue into February, finding withdrawal equally difficult.
February wasn’t any easier. Then I got to March, and I said to myself, if I can go six months without drinking, by my birthday, I will have proven to myself that I don’t need alcohol.
Having reached that goal, he decided to stop drinking permanentlyconsidering it one of his greatest hits. Now, two years after that decision, Holland has launched Bero, a non-alcoholic beer produced with the help of the Grant Wood brewery.
How alcohol-free beer is made
To keep the beer alcohol-free, the Bero team uses a maltose-negative yeastwhich allows the product to ferment without the yeast creating alcohol. Bero’s beers are currently available in three variations: Kingston Golden Pils, Edge Hill Hazy IPA and Noon Wheat.
Each of these beers is a homage to significant moments and places in the actor’s life: Pils is inspired by Holland’s hometown of Kingston; the Hazy IPA named after his primary school; while the Noon Wheat is a tribute to his schnauzer Noon.
Holland explained his motivation behind the project:
For me Bero is personal. Two years into my sober journey, I wanted to create something that reflected my lifestyle and values.
He added that Bero is not only designed for those who have chosen the path of sobriety, but for all those who appreciate quality beer, made with artisanal carewithout having to adapt and settle for less satisfying choices.
The non-alcoholic beer market is expanding and is estimated to have reached a value of 31.5 billion euros globally in 2023. While many celebrities have already launched beverage brands, Holland is among the few to offer a non-alcoholic product. With Bero, the actor aims to offer a drink for everyone, while maintaining his personal commitments and a healthy approach to life.
