None of the operators seem to make sure that the animals are actually in a state of unconsciousness, resorting in this case to emergency stunning. We continue with the slaughter, with the sheep seeing their companions slaughtered. They will suffer the same barbaric fate.
The way the animals are handled is also brutal. There is no respect for the living and sentient beings in front of us, there is no attention to minimizing their suffering by guaranteeing animal welfare standards.
The videos collected sparked great indignation among citizens and meat consumers. The slaughterhouse in question supplies supermarkets Super U, Intermarché, E. Leclerc of the department and the local butchers.
The material collected was brought to court on Wednesday 13 November. Bérénice Riaux, head of investigations at L214, stated that:
Animal suffering in slaughterhouses should no longer be a matter of debate. It’s time for the government to establish an action plan to reduce the number of animals killed.”
The association urged Agriculture Minister Annie Genevard to carry out audits of French slaughterhouses and the Prefect of Savoy François Ravier to order the immediate closure of the Maurienne slaughterhouse.
The slaughterhouse under investigation is the fourth identified by the association within a year in which irregularities were found. How many more are there still?
