Every morning, at 4.30, Lorenzo’s alarm clock, fourteen of Gemona del Friuli, sounds punctual. With the backpack, the boy faces a long journey to Portogruaro, in the Venetian, where he attends the musical high school XXV Aprile. The journey includes three train changes and a final stretch by bicycle, a means that Lorenzo himself had purchased with his savings. His bicycle, nicknamed “Combatzarella Disessa”, was essential to get on school and not taking risks on the return.
The theft and appeal of the mother
Unfortunately, however, after just two days of lessons, Lorenzo found himself in front of a bitter surprise: his bicycle had been stolen, despite being linked with a visible padlock, as told by the boy himself. The woman thus launched an appeal on Facebook to try to find her. He wrote:
Hello, my son is 14 years old and every morning he gets up at 4:30 to take Gemona del Friuli three trains to reach your Portogruaro to attend the esteemed music high school XXV Aprile. He had bought himself with his pennies a bike used by ‘fighting’ to get to time to school and above all in order not to run in order not to lose the train on his return, with two baskets he wanted it, one for the backpack and one for the violin … It did not last two days. This morning the amara surprise when arriving at the station, because his ‘relief’ was no longer there so if you see it throwing around or leaning somewhere for court as a courtesy let me know. It was tied with a padlock, on sight road so that, according to him, if they have to steal it someone surely sees them. I trust in people’s good heart and above all in the desire for legality. In the meantime, if someone has a similar bike contact me. Thank you.
Many, too many difficulties related to school transport
An appeal that has become a viral that puts us in front of a long -standing question: the theft of a bike of little value and a boy who remained on foot, literally, because of some delinquent who has taken possession of the two -wheeled vehicle. Yet, reflecting deeper, this theft is only the tip of the iceberg. The real problem is that nobody should be forced to wake up in the middle of the night and cross different cities in the dark and with the imminent cold.
Lorenzo’s situation is a cause from the reduction of trains racing, which has complicated its daily path already simple at all. Of course, in view of the winter and after the theft of the bike it could find a passage by car, but this temporary solution does not eliminate the structural problem of a long and tiring journey that a 14 -year -old boy has to face. And we are asking us: if a teenager has to get up at 4:30 in order to study – and take various means to be able to reach the school – where is the right to education (and to sustainable mobility)?
