Bebe Vio is back on track, but, as she had announced, not in a fencing competition, but in an athletics one: today 4 July, the multiple Paralympic fencing champion made her debut at the Italian 100m Paralympic championships, launching a new challenge first and foremost for herself.
The athlete became world famous for her feats with foil, which led her to win an extraordinary number of medals in all major international competitions, both in singles and team events, including three world and two paralympic golds.
However, in March this year she publicly announced, during the broadcast ‘Che tempo che fa’, her decision to leave fencing due to physical problems that had afflicted her recently.
However, the champion had no intention of giving up sport, only of dedicating herself to something else.
I’ve had a lot of physical problems lately. I never said it out loud: unfortunately I ended up with fencing, I can’t do it physically anymore but I tried to get busy with other sports
So this incredible woman, approaching her 30th birthday (she was born in 1997), dedicated herself to Paralympic athletics, in particular the 100 metres. Naturally with the aim not only of participating, but of competing at high levels.
And it seems she is already succeeding given that she has already managed to qualify for the Italian Championships, taking place today and tomorrow, 4 and 5 July, at the Carlo Zecchini Stadium of Grosseto. An incredible debut, just as incredible as she is.
