Bosch, Whirlpool or Samsung microwave oven? The best brand is only one, according to Altroconsumo

The microwave oven is now present in almost all kitchens. According to a new investigation of AltroconsumoAlmost 80% of respondents have it and use it regularly. In fact, no longer is needed to heat drinks or defrost foods: the most recent models offer advanced functions that allow you to prepare real meals in no time.

But what are the best and most reliable brands? This is revealed by the same investigation as Altroconsumo Which was carried out in collaboration with European Test-Achats (Belgium), OCU (Spain) and DECO protests (Portugal) organizations, involving over 24,000 consumers.

The best brands of microwave ovens 2025

According to the investigation, microwave performance vary significantly from brand to brand. At the top of the ranking we find Bosch, with 7 tested products, 57% of which of excellent quality, a good score in the laboratory tests (62/100), a very high reliability index (85/100) and a users’ satisfaction index of 83/100, for a global judgment of 72.

Other brands appreciated for reliability and satisfaction of users-but still with a great detachment compared to Bosch-include Panasonic, Whirlpool, Beko and Samsung, which obtain overall judgments around 62-63 points, with peaks of reliability above 80%. Brands such as Electrolux, Sharp and Severin are distinguished by individual products of good quality and excellent reliability, while Smeg and LG show medium performance.

In general, choosing the right microwave means not only evaluating aesthetics and price, but also considering the quality of the materials, the reliability and the satisfaction of users, aspects that Altroconsumo has integrated into its global score.

The most frequent problems that a microwave can give

The investigation also highlights which are the most common faults reported by users. At the top of the list there are defective buttons and commands (6%), followed by internal bulbs that burn (4%).

Other problems encountered include branches that do not close correctly (3%) and swivel dishes that stop working (2%). The combined grill or combined cooking are instead rarer.

These inconveniences, although not making the microwave unusable, can affect daily practicality and the overall judgment of reliability of the brand.

On average, a microwave lasts between 6 and 8 years, but in Italy life stands around 6 years, often because, in addition to the failures, performance decreases over time or repair costs exceed the value of the product.

How the test was conducted

The analysis has combined several data:

The final score also integrates the percentage of excellent quality products for each brand, giving an overall view of the brand over time. To qualify as a “best brand”, a brand must be distributed in Italy, having had at least five models tested in the last two years and having collected at least thirty responses valid by users.
