The risk of contamination from Clostridium botulinumthe bacterium responsible for botulism, is back in the news. After the recent recall of Sapurè brand broccoli in oil, the Ministry of Health is now reporting a new precautionary recall involving 2 ready-made products typical of the Neapolitan tradition, based on broccoli.
These are the Napoli Gran Gourmet sausage and friarielli pizza and the Acquaviva friarielli and sausage focaccia. But let’s find out all the details of the recalls.
The products involved
According to the Ministry’s official notices, the products involved in the recall are:
Both products were made by Vera Pizza Napoli Srl, in the factory in via Monte Bianco 4, in Montecorvino Pugliano (Salerno). The recall was ordered as a precaution following the suspicion that the broccoli in oil of these products may be contaminated with botulinum.

The provision is therefore closely linked to the previous alert relating to Sapurè broccoli in oil, also recalled due to the suspected presence of Clostridium botulinum. In that case, they were 940 g jars with a minimum shelf life of 30 March 2028, produced in the Pagani (Salerno) plant.
The risks of botulism
Foodborne botulism is a serious disease, caused by the toxin produced by the bacterium, which can cause significant neurological symptoms such as blurred vision, difficulty swallowing, muscle weakness and progressive paralysis. The problem is that contaminated products often show no visible signs of alteration, such as swelling, strange odors or bubbling, making it difficult to recognize the risk.
Checks and reminders are therefore welcome.
