In Colombia he definitively falls the curtain on the bullfights and on all the manifestations that involve violence against animals. The Constitutional Court has in fact confirmed the legitimacy of law 2385 of 2024, known as No más oléwhich establishes the end of these cruel and anachronistic shows.
The rule, strongly supported by the magistrate Miguel Polo Rosero, establishes that by 2027 these activities will have to cease, giving three years to the local communities to start a path of economic and cultural conversion.
Priority to animal rights
The heart of the sentence lies in the choice to give greater relevance to the protection of animals with respect to the claims of the Taurine associations, who had raised issues related to cultural and expressive freedoms. The Court rejected the appeals, marking a clear change of broken broken in the balance between tradition and rights. With this decision, Colombia takes a historical step, approaching the increasingly pressing requests of public opinion which for years has been asking for the end of shows based on animal abuse.
The practices affected by the ban
Among the events banning are the bullfights, a symbol of the Taurine tradition, but also popular parties such as the Corralejas, where more bulls are faced simultaneously, and Galli’s fights. The practice of the Toros Coleados, widespread between Colombia and Venezuela, is no less bloody, which consists in lowering the bull by pulling it by the tail in the shortest possible time.
The law provides that these forms of entertainment are replaced by activities compatible with respect for animal life and that they can still guarantee economic support for the communities that have lived this events for generations.
A choice that looks to the future
The Colombian measure has a symbolic scope also outside national borders. Countries such as Spain and France continue to host bullfights and similar shows, although popular consensus is increasingly reduced and the protests of growing animalists. The message is clear: what was once called culture today must deal with a new collective sensitivity, which finally puts the well -being of animals first and puts an end to these cruel practices.
