Come on dad! A self-help group for future and new fathers is born in Bolzano (to share fears and emotions without judgement)

Becoming parents represents a radical revolution, a moment of profound personal change that brings with it new responsibilities, high expectations and inevitable questions. Precisely for this reason, starting from mid-October, the city of Bolzano will provide itself with an important point of reference with the launch of Courage dad!, an innovative self-help group designed to welcome all future fathers and new fathers. The meetings will be held in the evening, on a bi-weekly basis starting from 8.00 pm, in the setting of the Altmann House located in Piazza Gries 18.

The project, strongly supported by the Federation for Social and Health ETS (Dachverband für Soziales und Gesundheit KDS), responds to an increasingly marked social need. As underlined by the promoters, in recent years the male parental role has experienced a profound metamorphosis: more and more men want to be involved on the front line in the daily care of their children and in family life. However, finding adequate contexts to freely express one’s fragilities is not yet a given.

Between fears of inadequacy and economic worries: the objective of the self-help group

The path is open to all men, regardless of their relationship or family situation, offering a protected place free of any judgement. Within the walls of the Altmann House, participants will finally be able to give voice to those thoughts that often remain silent, such as the fear of not being up to the task of the new role, the sense of confusion in the face of parental responsibilities and the anxieties linked to economic stability.

The meetings will also serve to reflect on the delicate changes in the couple’s relationship and intimacy, helping participants to re-establish a sustainable balance between professional, personal and family life. Sharing your experiences with other men will allow you to discover that insecurities are often common, transforming anxiety into a resource for growth.
