During the colder months, condensation on windows becomes a common problem in many homes. With the heating on and outside temperatures dropping, the warm, humid air inside comes into contact with the cold glass, inevitably forming droplets of water. A daily annoyance that forces you to clean the windows every morning and which, over time, can turn into something much more serious.
Persistent condensation, in fact, favors the appearance of humidity, marks and mould, with consequences not only aesthetically but also for health. Mold spores can worsen allergies and respiratory problems, especially in the winter months when windows are closed for longer.
A simple and low-cost remedy comes from social media, where the cleaning expert Chantel Mila has shared a method that promises to reduce the formation of condensation using only two easily available ingredients: dishwashing liquid and peppermint essential oil.

How the method works
The process is essential. You need a clean cloth, on which a small amount of dishwashing liquid should be applied, followed by a few drops of peppermint essential oil. The cloth must be passed carefully over the entire surface of the glass, insisting until it polishes well and removes any visible residue.
According to some industry professionals, detergent creates a temporary film on glass which hinders the formation of water drops. The essential oil, in addition to leaving a fresh scent, helps to improve the distribution of the product.
An important warning: the compound It must not come into contact with window seals or sealsbecause soap could damage them over time.
Limitations of makeup
It must be said clearly: this remedy does not eliminate the cause of condensation, but reduces its visible effects. If the humidity in your home is high, the problem will continue to recur, especially in poorly ventilated homes or where clothes are often dried indoors.
In these cases, the most effective solution remains a dehumidifierwhich acts directly on the air, collecting excess humidity and reducing the risk of mould. It is a more demanding investment, but also the only one that is truly decisive in the most serious cases.
The two-ingredient trick is cheap, quick, and can help keep daily condensation under control. It doesn’t work miracles, but it can be a good ally during the winter. However, when the humidity becomes structural, it is necessary to go beyond do-it-yourself remedies and tackle the problem at the root.
