Do you really know what’s in a Kinder Joy? After watching this video, you may never buy it for your kids again

Every summer it’s the same story. Children go crazy for Kinder Joy, the summer version of the beloved Kinder Surprise. In this case the egg is divided into two halves: on one side the cream with the balls to be eaten with the spoon, on the other the surprise. In addition to the two-tone chocolate, Ferrero knows very well how to appeal to the little ones: first came the Stranger Things collection, now it’s Minecraft’s turn.

But, beyond the surprise, what’s really inside a Kinder Joy?

The ingredients can obviously be read on the packaging but few do and the visual impact is certainly stronger. Science.snitch helps us in this, a creator who on TikTok and other social networks has decided to concretely show what is hidden in the creamy half of Kinder Joy. The method? Simple and brutal: pour all the ingredients, one by one, into a glass.

The ingredients of Kinder Joy

What emerges is a long and varied list of ingredients. In first place is sugar, present in enormous quantities. Next, vegetable oil, and not just one, but a real mix of different fats, to which cocoa butter is also added. Then again skimmed milk powder, wheat flour and starch, cocoa and cocoa mass, barley malt extract, whey proteins and lecithin as an emulsifier. Closing the list are artificial flavourings, ammonium bicarbonate and sodium bicarbonate as leaveners, and finally salt.

What is shocking, watching the video, is not only the number of ingredients (already long in itself for a product weighing just 20 grams), but above all the proportions. Sugar and fats (the mix of vegetable oils plus cocoa butter) dominate everything. The white Kinder Joy cream that children like so much is essentially sugar and oil with some flavoring as a side dish.

See for yourself and then decide.
