Do you want to embellish and make a white passe-partout unique? You can cover it with the fabric or paint it. The result is breathtaking!

Often, when we buy a frame, inside we find a white passe-partout, rarely colorful and even more rarely decorated in an original way. And this is where our creativity comes into play! Today we want to show you two simple ways to transform it using fabric or colors. Of course, a particularly rich and colorful passe-partout must be combined with a more sober print or painting, to maintain the overall harmony.

Cover it with fabric

The first idea we offer you is the fabric coating: choose a thin fabric and place it under the passe-partout by keeping it well tense. At this point, affect an “X” in the center of the passe-partout and folds the tall leaving about 1-2 cm of fabric. The corners and paste the fabric on the passe-partout. Let it dry and will be ready for use.

Paint

The second idea that we propose is painting: it is not necessary to know how to paint well, just choose a simple reason and reproduce it on the passe-partout with the colors you prefer.

We advise you to opt for shades that recall some elements of the image to be framed – whether it is a painting, a collage or a photograph – to create visual continuity.

In the example below the passe-partout was decorated with alternating stripes in ocher and white yellow. To obtain a similar effect, just apply paper ribbon in order to mask the areas you want to leave white, paint the uncovered parts and let it dry completely before removing the tape.

Alternatively, you can paint the freehand passe-prison with acrylic or tempera colors. Before starting, prepare a draft on paper by choosing chromatic combinations.
