“Don Matteo” returns tonight on Rai 1: everything about the 15th season with Raoul Bova and Nino Frassica and the new marshal

From tonight, Thursday 8 January, the historical fiction Don Matteo returns to prime time on Rai 1 with season 15 with the first episode already available on RaiPlay for the more impatient. Spoleto once again becomes the center of stories that intertwine investigations, feelings and profound questions about identity. This new season marks a change of pace: less certainties and more fragility, with characters called to look inside themselves and confront choices that they can no longer postpone.

Don Massimo and doubts about his vocation

At the center of the story there is still Don Massimo, played by Raoul Bova, a priest far from the infallible image of the past. The key word of the season is vocation, understood not only as a religious call, but as a daily decision that concerns work, affections and responsibilities. Don Massimo is a man on a journey, marked by doubts and contradictions, and it is precisely this humanity that makes him credible and close to the public. The investigations thus become the mirror of broader internal conflicts.

Historic faces and new balances to be found

Alongside the historical protagonists, Natalina, Pippo, Marshal Cecchini and Captain Diego Martini return, increasingly central also on an emotional level. The relationship between Diego and Giulia Mezzanotte, Don Massimo’s sister, goes through a complex phase: he seems to know what he wants from the future, she is blocked by a moment of personal and professional confusion. A fragile balance that risks breaking.

The new entry Caterina Provvedi

Among the new features, Caterina Provvedi stands out, played by Irene Giancontieri, the new Marshal of the Carabinieri. His arrival in Spoleto brings energy, irony and inevitable tensions, especially with Cecchini, who is not inclined to give up space and who will find himself at the center of a big misunderstanding. However, Caterina is not just a brilliant character: her enigmatic past hides an important secret that she initially chooses to confide only to Don Massimo, becoming a key element in future developments.

The guest stars and the most anticipated returns

Season 15 of Don Matteo it is also enriched with numerous guest stars, designed to give further depth to the individual episodes and surprise the audience. A much loved face returns Valeria Fabrizi, still in the role of Sister Costanza, a reassuring and ironic presence who continues to represent an emotional point of reference for the community. Among the special participations it stands out Diletta Leotta, involved in a new role without playing herself, while Max Tortora plays Diego Martini’s father, helping to clarify family dynamics that have so far remained in the shadows. Space also for Tosca D’Aquino, called to give life to a key character in one of the season’s cases. There’s also a surprising cameo by Alessandro Borghese, who appears as himself, and the presence of Carolina Benvenga, who completes a lineup of guests capable of mixing nostalgia, lightness and new narrative ideas without distorting the identity of the series.
