On Monday 22 September it will be a day of strong inconvenience in Italy due to the general strike organized by various basic union acronyms, including USB, Cub, ADL Varese and Sgb. The mobilization will last 24 hours and involve various sectors of the public and private, with the aim of expressing solidarity with the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip. The protest will mainly concern local transport, schools, universities, ports and logistics, while the airspace remains excluded from mobilization for the moment.
Sectors involved and methods
As mentioned, the strike will involve numerous strategic sectors. Among these, the most affected will be local public transport, with metro, bus and trams, will undergo interruptions and changes to the times. The railway staff of the FS group, Trenitalia, Trenitalia Tper and Trenord will cross his arms from 9pm on September 21 until 9 pm on 22.
The highway services will observe the same time. The mobilization will also affect port workers, logistics and maritime transport, as well as taxi drivers. The world of education will also be involved: schools and universities will participate with sit-in, events and principals to demonstrate solidarity in the population of Gaza.
The guaranteed time slots
To limit the inconvenience to citizens, some essential bands will be guaranteed. Trenitalia regional transport provides services from 6:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00. In Emilia-Romagna, T-Per will ensure urban, suburban and extra-urban races from Bologna and Ferrara to the terminus until 8:15 and from 19:15 to the end of the service. In Naples, the ANM will guarantee bus and citizens trams from 5:30 to 8:30 and from 17:00 to 20:00.
In Rome, the strike of September 22 will involve the entire ATAC network and the connections managed by Trojan/SAP busters, Tuscia/bis autoservices, ATRs and other subtivation operators. During the day, races from the start of service will be guaranteed until 8:29 and from 17:00 to 19:59, while in the other time slots the service will undergo interruptions. The “N” night lines will be suspended in the night between 21 and 22, while some specific and night races will continue to work. The agitation will also continue on the night between 22 and 23 September, with the guaranteed night service and interruptions scheduled for daytime runs and some special lines.
Also in Lombardy, the company Trenord confirmed the memberships to General strike of 22 September. According to the official note, the agitation may cause repercussions on the regional, suburban, airport and long -distance service. For Sunday 21 September, they will travel only the trains with departure by 9 pm and arrival by 10 pm. 6:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00, during which the trains present on the guaranteed list will circulate. In case of cancellations on airport connections, Trenord has provided Replacement shuttles without intermediate stops, between Milan Cadorna and Malpensa Airport (Malpensa Express) and between Stabio and Malpensa Airport (S50 connection).
Processions and events are planned
In addition to the inconveniences in transport, there are public processions and events that will involve students and workers who will meet in the square in numerous urban centers. The goal is to make the voice of Italian citizens heard and combine social action and awareness for the situation in the Gaza Strip and on the current crisis.
The trade union acronyms involved underline that the strike does not have merely union or economic purposes, but aims to make the voice of Italian citizens feel in support of those who experience humanitarian emergency situations. The day of September 22 will therefore be a moment of collective mobilization, combining different sectors of the company to show solidarity and awareness towards the Palestinian population.
