From the August 19, 2025 An important measure will enter into force to counter the annoying harassing phone calls from call centerin particular those based on the phenomenon of spoofing. This trick consists in making an Italian number appear on the phone display, often of a local prefix like 02 or 06, when in reality The call comes from abroadthus deceiving the user. The result are unwanted calls, often of advertising or even fraudulent nature.
THE’AGCOM (Authority for telecommunications) has developed a system of technical filters which will be activated directly by the telephone operators for block automatically these falsified numbers. The novelty is that everything will happen without the user having to install app or modify any setting on your device, making the process simple and transparent.
How the control mechanism works: there will be two phases
The control mechanism develops in Two phases: the first step will start on August 19th and concern the blocking of calls from abroad which use falsified Italian fixed numbers. This type of calls, in fact, presents an anomaly easily identifiable because it comes from foreign networks but shows an Italian local prefix.
Subsequently, from November 19thcalls with calls will also be blocked Falsified mobile numbersa more complex control because it requires real -time verification of the existence of the number within a ministerial database and its actual roaming use.
It will not be possible to block all unwanted calls
This intervention wants to make a clear cut to the problem of aggressive telemarketing and telephone scams, often conveyed precisely through the phenomenon of spoofing. Although the system (for example those generated by legitimate numbers but used illegally or those originating from inside the national territory), represents a significant step forward.
Legitimate calls will remain free, such as those from authorized Italian operators or communications from real foreign contacts, thus protecting honest users. At the same time, however, operators and AGCOMs will be able to intervene with Further checks and penalties in case of abuse.
This new measure therefore promises to significantly improve the quality of the calls received by the Italians, effectively limiting the annoyance caused by illegal call centers and scams, thanks to an integrated and intelligent filters system activated directly on the national telephone network.
