Female volleyball, Moriam Metwally arrives in Busto Arsizio, the first player with the veil in Serie A1

The female volleyball series of volleyball is preparing to welcome a new protagonist: Mariam Metwally. The 26 -year -old crusher will be the first volleyball player to take the field wearing the Islamic veil. A natural gesture for her, but which takes on a strong symbolic value in a championship still without precedents similar. Born in Egypt, Mariam has always considered Italy a sporty dream and today realizes it with the Eutotek Laica Volley Busto Arsizio, taking the place of Rebecca Piva, passed to Milan.

Metwally arrives in our championship with a respectable palmarès: seven African club titles, obtained with two historical teams such as Al-Ahly and Zamalek, and three consecutive MVP prizes. He is currently engaged with the Egyptian national team for the World Cup in Thailand, but already looks on the Italian championship where – according to him – he will touch the highest moment of his career.

A symbol beyond sport

The entry of Mariam into A1, in addition to enriching the championship of a prestigious champion, also launches and above all a message of cultural inclusion. The Busto Arsizio club underlined the importance of having a team built on different origins and visions of the world. With athletes from four continents, Uyba is confirmed as an example of mutual cohabitation and growth, not only technical but also human.

The veil, for Metwally, is not an obstacle but an integral part of its identity. It is a visible sign of belonging and, at the same time, of freedom: that of being herself, even in the spotlight of one of the most competitive championship in the world. Several times he explained how a way of being an athlete does not exist for her. His goal is also to inspire other girls: if his example manages to make even a young man say “I might be me”, He will already feel winning.

In addition to the sporting side, Mariam is ready to immerse yourself in Italian culture: learning the language, knowing people, discovering local cuisine. Curious and determined, he hopes to grow technically and mentally, taking advantage of every challenge to improve. In Busto Arsizio, not only a crusher arrives: a woman arrives with a story to tell.
