If you don’t want to be wasteful at Christmas, instead of rushing out to buy new decorations, make them with recycled materials. As we always say, creative recycling has countless potential and allows you, with little money and a pinch of imagination, to bring the unexpected to life.
Today we want to focus on the reuse of bicycle wheels, or rather rims, which at Christmas can turn into pretty good decorations! Here is a selection of DIY ideas to inspire you.
Garlands
The first idea we propose is to transform bike rims into garlands to hang on doors, gates or external walls. After cleaning up the circle, you will need to decorate it with pine or fir sprigs, berries, baubles and other Christmas elements. You can secure them around the circle with thin wire, covering only one part. A beautiful bow will complete the garland.
Alternatively, before decorating the circle you could paint it red, the quintessential Christmas colour.
Advent Calendar
We have shared many creative ideas for creating an Advent Calendar over time, but the calendar with the bike wheel is truly a gem.
Snowman
The last idea we want to share is the snowman: in this case you will need two circles, one larger and one smaller, which will be painted white. Attach the smaller circle on top of the larger circle (you can also join them with zip ties) and decorate the central part with snowy pine branches and a nice bow. Add a hat on the smaller circle. The snowman thus created can be placed on the wall or placed on an iron support.
In this example three circles were used, a larger one for the base, a medium one for the central body, and a smaller one for the puppet’s head. With the addition of a hat and a simple scarf the puppet is served.
