Torrential rain hit the eastern part of Friuli Venezia Giulia between Sunday 16 and Monday 17 November, causing widespread flooding, landslides and emergencies throughout the territory. The intense rain concentrated the equivalent of two months of precipitation in just a few hours, generating highly critical conditions in the areas of Palmanova, Manzano, Collio and Cormons.
A landslide overwhelms a house in Brazzano: two missing
The most dramatic situation occurred in Brazzano di Cormòns, where a landslide swept away a house. Rescuers extracted one person alive, who was immediately transported to Udine hospital for a broken leg. Non-stop interventions and rescues: Palmanova hospital flooded
Record rainfall reached around 200 mm between Palmanova, Manzano and Collio, in some areas exceeding 240 mm. The result was widespread flooding of homes, streets and basements, including those of the Palmanova hospital, invaded by half a meter of water. Specialized teams deployed high-capacity pumps to limit damage and ensure the safety of patients and healthcare workers.

The forecast for the next few days
The Atlantic front will continue to bring intense rain and thunderstorms until late morning, with the possibility of storm surges and high water along the coast. From the evening, a cold front coming from Austria will cause the snow level to drop down to the Tarvisiano valley floor. The arrival of dry Bora air is expected from Tuesday, which should bring clear sky conditions, but the vulnerability of the area remains high after the flood.
