Sustainable mobility takes a significant step forward with the presentation of the new Hyundai Nexo, revealed to the Seoul Mobility Show. This second generation of the electrical SUV in fuel cells represents the evolution of a path started by Hyundai 27 years ago, consolidating the leadership of the Korean brand in the hydrogen technology sector.
The new Nexo, the third hydrogen vehicle produced in series by the car manufacturer after the IX35 Fuel Cell launched in 2013, stands out for the impressive autonomy that aims to exceed 700 km with a single refueling of hydrogen, which can be completed in just 5 minutes. A figure that directly challenges the typical limitations of traditional electric vehicles, eliminating the charging anxiety and proposing a valid alternative to those looking for mobility solutions to zero emissions without compromise.
“Art of Steel” design
Based on the concept initium presented in October 2024, the new Nexo embodies the stylistic language “Art of Steel” of Hyundai, which draws inspiration from the natural strength and plasticity of the steel. The result is a decisive and sophisticated external design, with marked lines that communicate robustness, while the back arc profile and the horizontal grooves of the goalkeeper emphasize the solidity of the vehicle.
A distinctive detail are the innovative “htwo lights”, which create an exclusive bright signature for Hyundai’s FCEV vehicles, inspired by the message “Hydrogen for Humanity” of the Htwo brand, dedicated to the development of the entire value chain of hydrogen. The color palette includes six colors, among which the Goyo Copper Pearl stands out, a tribute to Korean culture according to the concept of “Koreanism”, with a three -layer painting process that creates a fascinating multidimensional effect that varies according to the incidence of light.
Recycled pet, linen and bioplastic for the interiors
The passenger compartment of the new Nexo represents a perfect balance between spaciousness, comfort and sustainability. The interiors, designed to evoke the heat of a domestic environment, boast sustainable materials in numerous contact points, including ecologically processed skin, recycled pet, linen and bioplastic fabrics derived from waste from the automotive industry.
The car is longer, wider and higher than the previous generation, offering more space for passengers and a load capacity that reaches 993 liters. The front seats have the relaxation function with heading, while the rear ones benefit from ventilation, greater corner of reclination and more space for the head and shoulders. Everything is embellished with a panoramic roof that increases the feeling of airy and by an intelligent environmental lighting that connects to the notices on the speed limits.
Hydrogen technology: performance and sustainability without compromise
The technological heart of the new Nexo is represented by significant evolutions in PowerTrain, with an enhanced fuel cell system that now provides a maximum gross power of 110 kW (an increase of 16% compared to the previous model), while the new electric motor provides 150 kW. The total power thus rises to 190 kW, with a battery that doubles the capacity from 40 to 80 kW.
These improvements translate into brighter performance, with an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds (1.4 seconds less than the previous generation), while maintaining emissions to the exhaust of zero. Extended autonomy is guaranteed by greater overall efficiency and a higher hydrogen storage density, with a tank that can now contain up to 6.69 kg of hydrogen.
An important novelty for the European market is the towing capacity of up to 1,000 kg, which makes the SUV even more versatile, demonstrating how hydrogen technology can meet the practical needs of daily life without compromising sustainability.
Artificial intelligence and driving assistance for safe mobility
The new Nexo is not only an ecological car, but an advanced driving experience. The navigation system is equipped with generative artificial intelligence for vocal recognition, capable of providing dynamic and fluid responses. The Head-up Display projects essential information on the windshield such as driving data, security notices and speedometers, reducing driver’s distractions.
On the safety front, the Nexo is equipped with a multi-sceletter structure for the maximum protection of the occupants and the hydrogen tank, together with a suite complete with the latest generation driving assistance systems, such as the Collision-Avoidance Assist 2.0 Forward, the Lane Keeping Assist, the Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist and many others.
With the introduction of the new Nexo, Hyundai confirms its commitment to a diversified electrification strategy that includes battery -powered electric vehicles, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and different hybrid engines. This variety of solutions offers consumers a wider choice possibility based on their needs and preferences of sustainable mobility.
The arrival on international markets is scheduled for the end of this year, and the new Nexo is proposed as the protagonist of that silent revolution of hydrogen which could represent one of the keys for the decarbonisation of the transport sector. With the aim of becoming a supplier of all -round intelligent mobility solutions, Hyundai will continue to invest in the FCEV infrastructure and to strengthen its position as leader in the field of hydrogen mobility.
