When the postcard is no longer enough
There is a precise moment when a destination stops being a backdrop and becomes an experience. Malta knows this well, and has built a campaign around it. Explore The Unexplored was born as an Italian spin-off of the international Explore More… initiative, but it has an ambition of its own: to break the conventional narrative of an archipelago that is too often reduced to study holidays, crystal clear sea and ancient stones.
In just 316 km², Malta, Gozo and Comino condense over 8,000 years of history that does not simply coexist with the present — they cross it, shape it, reinvent it. Contemporary design, emerging architecture, widespread creativity: the destination speaks to different generations on the same journey, whether they are couples, families, groups of friends or solitary travelers looking for something they don’t yet know they are looking for.
Five keys to an archipelago worth rereading
The project is structured around five narrative pillars, each identified by a color and a symbolic icon.
Unseen Heritage explores historical and cultural heritage from unusual angles, bringing architecture, collective memory, local craftsmanship and lesser-known stories into dialogue: the symbol of the Sleeping Lady recalls the prehistoric roots of the archipelago.
Unexpected Vibes instead captures the contemporary energy of the islands, from festivals to patronal celebrations, embodied by the Ćićikokku fireworks pinwheel – symbol of the joyful and irreducible soul of the Maltese.
Unforeseen Energy enhances the connection with nature and well-being through trekking, outdoor sports, diving and meditative activities such as yoga at the Blue Grotto.
Undiscovered Flavors recounts the gastronomic and winemaking heritage with workshops, tastings and contemporary reinterpretations of local products, with the tiffino-shaped door as a symbol of the flavors to be discovered.
Finally, Unbelievable Escapes interprets Malta as a destination for transformation and lifestyle, between urban regeneration, contemporary architecture and the Maltese cross to symbolize identity and hospitality.
The numbers of growth that doesn’t stop
The Italian market responds with 583,323 visitors in 2025 and a market share of 14.5%, Malta confirms itself as one of the most strategic destinations for Italian travellers. Numbers that tell not only of a tourist flow, but of an increasingly deeper bond between the archipelago and those who choose it.
“Every trip to Malta is an invitation to slow down, observe and let yourself be guided by the richness of an archipelago which is at once tradition, innovation and emotional space”
and the goal is that each visitor takes with them not only memories, but emotions capable of lasting well beyond the postcard.
