A small silhouette moved among the cars, disoriented, while traffic flowed in the historic center of Marino, 20 km south of Rome. It was a little wild boar just a few days old, far from the herd and unable to orient herself among the asphalt and noises. The scene attracted the attention of some residents who immediately understood the danger: leaving her there would almost certainly have meant condemning her.
The report started quickly and led to the intervention of the Castelli Romani park rangers together with the veterinary service of ASL Roma 6. The puppy, still with the typical streaks on her coat, was recovered and made safe. According to initial reconstructions, she moved away from the family group coming from a nearby green area, accidentally ending up in a busy area.
The rescue and arrival at the recovery center
After her recovery, the little girl was entrusted to a facility specialized in the recovery of animals in difficulty between Genzano and Lanuvio. Here, thanks to the non-profit organization Zampe Felici, she found a completely different environment: no traffic, but veterinary care, breastfeeding and constant monitoring. The volunteers welcomed her and even gave her a name: Valsoia.
The wild boar was carefully monitored to ensure correct growth. The initial objective was to stabilize their conditions, but as time passed the situation changed. Valsoia quickly adapted to the new reality and became an increasingly familiar presence among the operators and other animals in the facility.
Microchip and adoption to avoid slaughter
For animals like her, the fate is often uncertain, especially when reintegration into the wild is not possible. In this case, however, a concrete decision has arrived. A young woman has in fact chosen to officially adopt her, also having the microchip inserted. A fundamental step because it removes it from any killing and slaughter procedures.
The choice completely transformed the little boar’s perspective. From an animal lost among cars it becomes a permanent guest on the farm, where it grows together with other recovered animals. Within a few weeks Valsoia became familiar with the environment and became a real mascot, attracting curiosity and sympathy.
A new life between animals and volunteers
Today Valsoia is about a month old and continues to grow surrounded by the attention of volunteers. He moves between the spaces of the structure, explores, observes and interacts with other guests. Its story began on a busy street, but transformed into a path of recovery and protection built step by step.
His rescue started with the attention of some citizens, continued with the intervention of the authorities and culminated with an adoption. A path that changed the destiny of a lost puppy and which today sees her safe in a protected environment, far from the risks she encountered in her first days of life.
