From Fontana to Ligabue: all the exhibitions of February 2025 not to be missed

The winter afternoons become a perfect opportunity to immerse themselves in the art world. With the days still short and the temperatures they invite you to spend time indoors, visit an exhibition represents an enriching and pleasant experience. This month of February it offers a rich panorama of exhibitions ranging from contemporary art to the great masters of the past. Here are the most interesting proposals that will make your winter afternoons special.

Show “Warhol Banksy” at Wegil, Rome

From 20 December 2024 to 6 June 2025, the Wegil in Rome hosts the Warhol Banksy exhibition, the exhibition explores the link between Andy Warhol and Banksy, two revolutionary artists who have transformed the concept of art in the last 50 years. Warhol, a public figure and icon of pop art, made his works a real brand, while Banksy, keeping anonymity, has transformed street art into a global phenomenon.

Through a comparison between public image and artistic provocation, the exhibition highlights the points of contact between the two: Warhol with its commodification of art and Banksy with its social criticism, often playing precisely on the symbols created by the first.

The exhibition is at the Wegil in Rome from 20 December 2024 to 6 June 2025. The cost of the full ticket is 15 euros, while the reduced, reserved for under 14, over 70, students, journalists, law enforcement agencies and regional employees Lazio and Laziocrea, it is 10 euros. Admission is free for children up to 6 years. The exhibition will be visited every day from 10:00 to 19:00, with the closing of the ticket office before. Extraordinary openings are planned on Christmas and New Year’s days with the same times.

Retrospective, the monographic exhibition of Fontana, Rome

The Retrospective exhibition celebrates Franco Fontana’s career, one of the most important Italian photographers, known for his innovative color photography. Curated by Jean-Luc Monterosso, it is at the Ara Pacis Museum in Rome from 13 December 2024 to 31 August 2025, and has over 200 photographs that explore its artistic evolution through abstract landscapes, urban skylines and experiments with color and shape.

The exhibition offers an immersive journey between iconic images, from the geometries of its landscapes to the bold urban shots, passing through the famous shots of the Skyline series and its studies on light and shadows. The exhibition includes Rare Polaroid, video installations and a section dedicated to fashion and advertising. Fontana has transformed the landscape and reality into pure visual poetry, with an approach that has revolutionized contemporary photography.

Exhibition of George Hoyningen-Huene, Milan

The George Hoyningen-Huene exhibition at Palazzo Reale in Milan celebrates the work of one of the most refined and influential photographers of the twentieth century. With over 100 works, among photographs and personal items, the exhibition – the first in Italy dedicated to him – retraces his career through ten thematic sections.

Born in St. Petersburg in 1900, Hoyningen-Huene moved to Paris after the Russian revolution, coming into contact with artists such as Picasso, Dalรฌ, Man Ray and Coco Chanel. His elegant and innovative style earned him, in 1925, the role of first photographer for the French edition of Vogue. Famous for his compositional ability and the revolutionary use of the photographic press, he redefined the aesthetic of fashion and portrait.

On display, iconic shots of the Parisian models and photo shoots for Balenciaga, Schiaparelli and Chanel, which return the atmosphere of the thirties Paris and the visionary contribution of a master of the image.

The exhibition will be held in Milan, Palazzo Reale, from 21 January 2025 to 18 May 2025.

Antonio Ligabue, the great exhibition, Bologna

From 21 September 2024 to 30 March 2025, Palazzo Albergati in Bologna hosts the first great anthological exhibition dedicated to Antonio Ligabue, one of the most extraordinary and intense artists of the twentieth century.

The exhibition presents over 100 works, including oils, drawings and sculptures, offering a journey into the tormented and visionary life of the artist, capable of transforming pain into a disruptive painting. His famous landscapes, fairs, scenes of daily life and self -portraits reveal a unique expressive force, made of instinct and authenticity.

Ligabue, self -taught and isolated by the company, anticipated subsequent artistic tendencies, challenging academic conventions with his raw but very powerful style. The public will have the opportunity to rediscover a teacher capable of capturing the most intimate essence of the natural and animal world with a realism full of emotional tension.

The exhibition, curated by Francesco Negri and Francesca Villanti, is open every day from 10:00 to 20:00. The full ticket costs 16 euros, reduced 14 euros.

Show Disney. The art of telling timeless stories, Padua

Frozen shows Padova

An exhibition dedicated to the extraordinary creative process of the Walt Disney Animation Studios arrives at the Altinate Cultural Center in Padua in Padua in Padua, telling a century of animation and their cultural impact.

The exhibition explores the origins of Disney stories, bringing them back to their ancient roots between myths, legends and fairy tales of different cultures. The exhibition itinerary reveals the phases of the creation of an animated film: from the initial idea to the preparatory sketches, to the definition of the characters and settings.

Through story sketch and concept art, visitors will discover how the most iconic characters come to life, admiring the stylistic evolution of the Studios. The exhibition also includes educational activities and guided tours for schools, families and enthusiasts.

The exhibition is open from Monday from 14:30 to 19:30 and from Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 to 19:30. The full ticket costs 15 euros, reduced 13 euros.

From 28 September 2024 to 23 February 2025, the Orangerie of the Royal Palace of Monza hosts the exhibition from Renoir to Picasso, from Mirรณ to Fontana. 120 masterpieces of the graphics of the 1900s, curated by Manuela Vaccarone.

The exhibition explores the art graphics as an autonomous language, presenting over 120 original works of some of the greatest artists between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, including Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec, Cรฉzanne, Picasso, Kandinsky, Mirรณ, Chagall, Giacometti, Dubuffet, Burri and Fontana.

Through rare engravings, etchings, lithographs and woodcuts, the exhibition itinerary shows how many of these masters have found in the graphics an innovative artistic field of artistic experimentation. The exhibition follows the path of modern art with symbolist roots to the avant -garde, highlighting the fundamental role of the art press in the expressive research of the twentieth century.
