Gelato Day 2026, the flavor of the year is irresistible and is called Melody (in homage to Eurovision)

Today, March 24, Gelato Day returns across Europe, the day dedicated to artisanal ice cream, celebrated by the European Parliament as the only day of its kind for a food. Now in its fourteenth edition, the event attracts master ice cream makers, enthusiasts and families, aiming to enhance the gastronomic excellence, tradition and creativity that make ice cream made in Europe unique.

During the day, thousands of ice cream parlors across Europe will participate with dedicated initiatives, tastings, workshops and meetings with master ice cream makers. Each ice cream shop thus becomes a small stage where ice cream, like music, tells stories of identity, art and taste.

A bridge between taste and music

The 2026 edition stands out for the original theme “The Ice Cream that makes Europe sing”, a direct homage to the Eurovision Song Contest scheduled in Vienna from 12 to 16 May. The idea is to transform ice cream into a real sensorial symphony, where each ingredient tells a note, each taste becomes melody, uniting palate and music in a shared and identifying experience.

Melody: the flavor of the year

The absolute protagonist is the Flavor of the Year 2026, named Melody. Designed by Juanma Guerrero of the ice cream shop Sicily Ice Cream of Torre del Mar, this flavor is a composition designed like a musical score: creamy base, pistachio variegation, crunchy grains and an orange sauce that illuminates everything with a fresh and citrus note. It will be available in participating ice cream shops in the original recipe or reinterpreted by master ice cream makers with local touches, creating unique territorial variations.

Ice cream as cultural heritage

In addition to the pleasure of taste, artisanal ice cream becomes a symbol of European identity, tradition and craftsmanship, celebrating a shared culture that transcends borders and generations. Italian cuisine, recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage, finds on this day a vehicle to strengthen its global influence and enhance a small daily luxury, accessible to all.

A growing sector

The Italian ice cream sector reached 4.9 billion euros, driven by the artisanal product which is worth 3 billion with a growth of 4%. Gelato Day is therefore not just a celebration, but also an economic and cultural driver that involves the supply chain, territories and consumers, consolidating ice cream as a symbol of European creativity and passion.
