Mauro Morandi is no longer there: the hermit guardian of the marvelous Budelli island he passed away at the age of 85. He was known as the “new Robinson Crusoe”, given that for over 30 years, after teaching physical education, he had decided to move in complete solitude to that paradise known for its pink sand, in the Sardinian archipelago of Madeleine.
When he landed in that pristine corner of the Sardinia during a trip with friends he fell madly in love with it and, having discovered that the guardian at the time wanted to leave, he jumped at the opportunity to stay there for life, without asking for money in return. The former teacher from Modena chose to live there as a hermit to change his priorities, to learn to fully enjoy the wonders of Mother Nature and protect them.

Unfortunately, however, in 2021 Mauro Morandi was forced to leave his beloved island – after having lived there for 32 long years – due to some reclamation interventions in Budelli and precarious health conditions (HERE we told about the great mobilization to block the eviction).
“If they kick me out of here, I’ll die immediately” he said heartbroken, moving to La Maddalena. And after a couple of years, he really left this Earth. May the waves be gentle on you, Mauro…
