There is a new coffee drink that is making waves on social media. It’s called Espresso Bomb, and the formula is simple: espresso, sparkling water, ice, a pinch of salt and a few drops of lime. No syrups, no cream, nothing particularly elaborate. Yet it works, at least visually, and this counts for a lot on TikTok and Instagram.
The scenographic effect is part of the charm, when you pour the espresso over the iced sparkling water without stirring immediately, a layered effect is created for a few seconds, dark above and light below, before everything blends into a sparkling amber brown. Enough to intrigue.
Among the videos circulating there are also those who claim that the Espresso Bomb helps to recover after an intense evening, thanks to the mineral salts of the sparkling water and the electrolytes of the lime. Experts don’t confirm any of this, but the myth is part of the success of drinks like this.
How to prepare
Preparing the Espresso Bomb is very simple, but the little trick of social creators makes all the difference. Start by filling a large glass halfway with ice and about 100ml of sparkling mineral water, although plain water is fine if you prefer without bubbles.
At this point, prepare a shot glass with the ready-made espresso and place it delicately on top of the salt and lime and immerse it in the sparkling water with ice. The coffee remains stratified for a few seconds, creating a contrast of colors that immediately captures attention and makes the drink spectacular. Before tasting it, mix everything together, so as to enjoy the perfect balance between the intense coffee, the refreshing bubbles, the lime and the light salty note.
Those who love a stronger taste can replace sparkling water with tonic water, while those who prefer a sweeter or more acidic drink can play with lime or lemon, leaving room for creativity and their own preferences.

What the espresso bomb tastes like
The taste is different from a classic iced coffee: the bubbles lighten the taste, the salt rounds out the bitterness, the lime gives a hint of acidity that wakes up the palate. It’s not for everyone, but it’s unusual enough to at least warrant a try.
If summer is approaching and you’re tired of the usual iced or shaken coffee, it’s worth a try.
