13 years ago a group of activists broke into the Green Hill Lager breeding in Montichiari (Brescia), saving 2,639 Beagle (terrified and malnourished) intended for vivisection. An unprecedented exciting action in Italy, which has changed the history of animal rights.
The images of Puppies passed from hand in hand over the barbed wire they will trigger such a strong social pressure that he will lead to one Law that will prohibit the farms of dogs, cats and “laboratory” records in Italy.
That desperate gesture was the result of months of frustration, with many promises that until then had not been completed, including the awaited regional law, promised by the then President Formigoni who would have led to the closure of factories in which Beagle dogs were raised intended for vivisection, such as Green Hill.

The terrible conditions in breeding
In the meantime, the dogs continued to live in terrible conditions, as the process will demonstrate: cages with minimal dimensions accumulated in underground spaces without natural light, physical mistreatment (with nail cutting such as to cause bleeding), high perinatal mortality due to ingestion of sawdust, inadequate nutrition, sensory and death deprivation, unjustified suppressions such as, for example, for example, Disthorery.
Dogs see the light of the sun for the first time
From that day an incredible car started which on July 18, 2012 marked great success: All Green Hill’s Beagles are placed under evidentiary seizure. Lav and Legambiente are appointed judicial custodians of dogs. In a few days 2,639 dogs are brought to rescue, to which are added dozens of litters born from the mares. Libera is the first moving mother mare who was able to see the sunlight, walk on a lawn and feel the sweetness of a caress.
In August, while in Montichiari (Brescia) the custody procedures of the Beagle of Green Hill continue incessantly, the Subsonica choose to support the cause with their music by granting, as the ideal soundtrack of the images of the liberation of the dogs raised for vivisection, the song “free everyone”.
After long days, finally even the last Beagle leaves the breeding: Green Hill’s 2,639 dogs were all rescued. We are on September 21, 2012. All free!
The historic judicial affair and the ban on breeding dogs for experimentation
From here starts a very long judicial affair, primarily against breeding, which will lead to a fundamental historical turning point to protect animals intended for vivisection. On 29 March 2014 the new legislative decree n. 26/2014 on animal experimentation. Although, unfortunately, it is not the end of vivisection, thanks to this law it is no longer possible to raise dogs, cats and “laboratory” records in Italy. Green Hill will not be able to reopen his Beagle factory. The breeding will subsequently be sentenced also to the Court of Appeal and Cassation.
We arrive on 4 March 2020, when the Brescia Court of Appeal acquitted all the activists who freed the Beagle on April 28, 2012, kicked off the greatest liberation of animals intended for vivisection ever seen.
Green Hill’s new life of the Beagle
A very important sentence following the postponement with which the Court of Cassation had canceled the conviction for the theft of the Beagle a few months ago. An important pronunciation in a historical affair for the judicial implications that have ascertained the guilt of the top of the breeding with reference to the crimes of killing and mistreatment of animals.
If Green Hill is closed today forever, it is also thanks to the determination of these 12 guys, Saving animals is not a crime.
And they demonstrate it with their happy existences, in their adoption families, the dogs saved by Green Hill. They would have died, a few years of life, in cold workshops and instead they are enjoying and have enjoyed a long life. Free.
As the mascot of the Greenme editorial staff, our beloved (and greedy) lives, who lived a free and carefree existence despite his serious health problems, demonstrated. Vivi Purropppo left us last March but his extraordinary lesson of resilience and attachment to life will remain carved in our hearts.
