Here are the dates to visit the living nativity scene of Matera, the most evocative in Italy (hurry, there are only a few days left)

In the historic Sassi of Matera, the most evocative living nativity scene in Italy continues to enchant.

The 14th edition, entitled “THE NATIVITY OF ITALY: LIGHT ON THE FUTURE”, is recording extraordinary success, standing out for its particular attention to inclusiveness and hospitality.

The route, which winds for 1.5 kilometers through the historic center and Sasso Caveoso, sees the participation of over 200 figures, historical re-enactors and theater artists from all over the peninsula. The ancient rocky districts of Matera, already the set of numerous film productions which have earned it the nickname “Jerusalem of Southern Italy”, are the natural setting for this extraordinary representation.

An accessible and inclusive path

One of the most significant innovations this year concerns accessibility: in the first six days of opening, more than 300 people with disabilities, accompanied by their family members, were able to visit the nativity scene, testifying to the organizers’ commitment to greater social inclusiveness .

The nativity scene

The event recreates with historical fidelity the daily life of Judea two thousand years ago, with particular attention to the ancient crafts and customs of the time. A Roman camp acts as a suggestive gateway to the living nativity scene of Matera, immediately immersing visitors in the atmosphere. This scenographic choice is not random: it represents the dominant power of the time and introduces the public to the historical context in which the Nativity took place.

From this starting point, the route winds through the ancient streets of the rock city, where every glimpse, every cave, every stone contributes to creating an atmosphere of extraordinary realism. Travel through time thus becomes complete and engaging, allowing visitors to live an immersive experience in history.

The culminating moment of the event is the representation of the Nativity, created with an emotional intensity that deeply involves visitors.
