Do you want to understand how distorted our world is? See what kids use to play. Their toys can tell us a lot and make us reflect on the gap between the consumerist society and a society that lives in poverty. Gaming should be everyone’s right, but for too many minors it remains a privilege.
The Dollar Street project, launched a few years ago by the Gapminder Foundation which makes us see things from another point of view, that is, with the eyes of a part of the population that lives on a very low income. Gapminder’s co-founder is Anna Rosling Rönnlund, a woman who has spent 15 years of her life raising awareness about the gap that exists on the planet.
His project saw the collaboration of a team of photographers who visited 264 homes in 50 countries around the world and in each one the family’s objects were photographed, including children’s toys. Through the shots, a glimpse of life at different income levels is shown, but what appears is not always what we expect.
This series of images is a snapshot of a world where injustice and inequalities reign.
