“Hundreds of bears block Yellowstone”: the truth behind the false image generated by the AI

Everything started from a post published in the past weeks on Facebook on the occasion of the World Orsi Day. Dozens and dozens of grizzly and black bears crouched on the groundon the street, as if to prevent the entry to the Yellowstone National Park. Real? Absolutely not.

The post reads: “Bears form an unprecedented block at Yellowstone’s entrance: scientists fear of knowing something that we do not know“. Hence a series of opinions, false alarmisms, disinformation.

A text and an image, then removed, which quickly became viral and fueled speculations, up to Snopes, the fact-checking site. The photo that accompanied the post, in fact, was created with artificial intelligence and has no basis in reality.

In reality, “note” comes from a satirical page called “Casper Planet“, Famous for its humorous content. The page itself had clearly declared that its articles are of pure invention, as indicated in its biography, while the Yellowstone National Park has confirmed by email that there is no evidence of any bears or events described in the news.

The fake image generated by the AI

In addition, the photo that accompanied the news is another falsification. The image, which shows a huge number of bears along a road, was originally published by the “Bear’s World” page on February 25, 2025, with the caption that clearly indicated that it was an image created through artificial intelligence. However, on March 5, the administrator of the page removed this reference, thus contributing to the spread of the hoax.

The conclusion? The story that has aroused so much alarm is nothing more than an example of disinformation fueled by the virality of social media.
