The Meloni government seems intent on presenting a bill that could mark a serious step back for the protection of nature, a “reform” project that risks opening the doors to bloody and violent practices towards animals, jeopardizing the delicate balance that nature offers us.
Among the proposed measures, the possibility of restoring the use of birds of birds prohibited by the European Union stands out, to use them as alive calls. Not only would you like to extend the list of these species, passing from 7 to 47, but an extension of the hunting periods and an expansion of the areas and times in which it will be allowed to shoot is also expected.
It is a text imbued with ideology and pro-hentory extremism that in fact gives the hunters the wildlife and the natural areas that the Constitution recognizes as the heritage of all and future generations, making a mockery of the science and rights of citizens, say from ENPA, LAC, LAG, LIPU and WWF Italia associations.
War to wild animals in 10 points
- From playful activity, hunting is redefined as a practice that by law protects biodiversity
- The huntable areas extend, reducing the prohibitions
- The Regions will be required to reduce the protected areas if considered “excessive” according to an interpretation of the law deemed incorrect by the Council of State
- They will reopen the capture plants of the live references and the captured species will increase
- Hunting in state areas will be allowed (beaches, dunal areas, meadows)
- Any limit will be deleted to the construction of new fixed hunting stalking, with impacts on tourism and lead pollution
- Hunting races with dogs and rifles will also be allowed at night and in nesting periods and in private areas the hunt can be exercised without rules
- The hunting license to foreign citizens will be recognized and no training will be foreseen
- The hunting periods extended over February will increase
- The sworn guards of banks and supermarkets will be able to kill animals. In addition, penalties for those who protest against the killings up to 900 euros is planned
All choices that not only go against the protection of ecosystems, but also risk compromising the future of many species, already in difficulty. Nature is not a game and the idea of ”loosening” the laws in favor of hunting is a vision that takes a step back compared to the progress made over the years to protect biodiversity. The real challenge should be to find solutions that respect and protect life, in all its forms.
