The story of Giulia Cecchettin, the student from Saonara killed in November 2023 by her ex-boyfriend Filippo Turetta, will become a film. In fact, it will be told in a feature film directed by Paola Randi. The project was officially announced by Fabio Fazio during the broadcast What’s the weather like? where Giulia’s father, Gino Cecchettin, was a guest.
The film, entitled If I don’t come back tomorrowdraws inspiration from the book Dear Giuliawritten by Gino Cecchettin, together with Marco Franzoso and published by Rizzoli. The film project is produced by Notorious Pictures, with the screenplay written by Randi and Lisa Nur Sultan.
Giulia’s story thus becomes not only a personal memory, but a symbol of the fight against violence against women, bringing to the screen a story that shook the whole of Italy for its brutal savagery. The book and now the film aim to represent the life of a young woman who loved life, her dreams and had an extraordinary kindness until Turetta’s blind fury stopped all this forever.
Filming scheduled for 2026
Filming of the film is scheduled for 2026, although at the moment details on the choice of the actress who will play Giulia have not been disclosed. For Paola Randi, born in 1970, this is the sixth feature film as director, after titles such as Into Paradise (2010), Tito and the aliens (2018), The Befana Comes at Night II – The origins (2021), Blessed are you (2022) e The story of Frank and Nina (2024).
A strong message against violence
Giulia Cecchettin’s story has become a symbol of a broader battle: the film will represent the condemnation of violence and the importance of denouncing all forms of abuse, whether physical, psychological or economic. Giulia’s story contributed to raising public awareness and increasing complaints, transforming fear and silence into courage, but unfortunately it was not enough to stop the scourge of femicide.
The feature film on Giulia Cecchettin promises to be not only a cinematic chronicle of dramatic events, but also an opportunity to reflect on the role of society in preventing and combating domestic violence. Giulia’s story thus becomes, once again, a collective memory and an educational tool in the hope of stemming, sooner or later, this dramatic phenomenon.
